Senior Research Associate DSP (m/f/d)

Who are we

As a biotechnology company, we at Insempra don’t just hope for a better future, we actively work for it!
For way too long, companies have relied on chemical production processes, depleting our planet’s limited resources. That’s why we are on a mission to create a world with naturally high-quality products, resulting in a balance between humans and our planet.
On the way to a better world, we are currently accompanied by a team of more than 40 passionate scientists, entrepreneurs and visionaries with rebel hearts – but we are still missing one important person: you!

For our office directly at the IZB Campus in Munich/Martinsried we are looking for an experienced chemist or chemical engineer with hands-on expertise in distillation, liquid-liquid extraction, reaction engineering and process scale-up who is eager to apply that experience to biomanufacturing and purification of biomolecules.
Does this sound like your next step?

We offer:

  • You will be part of a dynamic start-up with real added value for the environment and society where your ideas are highly appreciated
  • You will take on a meaningful function with access to a fully equipped lab, cutting edge technology and a lot of room for personal development
  • Practical real-world experience and the opportunity to collaborate with a team of experts in bioprocess engineering who are dedicated to supporting you in your research
  • You will be part of an international team with an open feedback culture, flat hierarchies, short decision-making processes and English as a working language
  • You will receive vouchers in the amount of 50€/month via our benefits partner

For this position you will perform the following duties:

  • Design and execute experiments focused on downstream purification, separation, and recovery processes for biological and chemical intermediates
  • Develop and optimize distillation, extraction, crystallization and reaction systems as part of integrated bioprocess workflows
  • Apply chemical engineering fundamentals—mass transfer, thermodynamics, and kinetics—to improve process efficiency and scalability
  • Support process modeling, simulation, and scale-up for pilot and commercial manufacturing
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with upstream, analytical, and business development teams to ensure process continuity and performance
  • Analyze and interpret experimental data, prepare technical reports, and present findings to project and leadership teams
  • Maintain compliance with laboratory safety, quality, and data integrity standards

Your profile:

  • M.Sc. in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related discipline .
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in process development, chemical separations, or downstream processing, preferably in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry. A Ph.D. thesis is also regarded as experience.
  • Strong technical expertise in distillation, reaction engineering, phase equilibria, and separation science.
  • Experience with process simulation tools (e.g., Aspen Plus, COMSOL, or similar).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a data-driven mindset.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities in a cross-functional environment.
